What's more effective - active or passive treatments?

May 2, 2021

Well, the answer is “it depends.” I think most therapists and doctors would agree that active therapy is in the patient’s best interest and that eventually it is necessary to introduce movement into the treatment progression. Many patients, however, might sometimes prefer something passive like massage. Hey who wouldn’t want results from passive therapy, right?

The Neubie is unique in that it can be used both actively and passively. As shown in this picture here, it can be used with the “Electric Glove” to enhance the neuromuscular re-education effect of manual therapy. As great as these effects are, it is more commonly known as an active modality. Unlike traditional e-stim, it is possible to move while the Neubie is being applied.

We know that neurological adaptations are specific to the tasks being performed, and the combination of movement plus the Neubie seems to be able to accelerate the re-education effect beyond what is possible with either one alone.
