It’s hard to believe but our Neuro-Bio-Electric Stimulator, better known as Neubie, turns 4 years old this month! What better time to share the story of our patented device which uses direct electrical current to stimulate the brain and nervous system and re-educate the muscles for recovery and growth.
In our journey to share the healing potential of the neurological approach to treatment, our founder, Garrett Salpeter, was inspired to find a better way to harness direct current’s power to re-educate the nervous system.
Developing a more powerful and more precise direct current signal that was also safe and effective was the goal. As an engineer, Garrett saw an opportunity to design a device to do just that. After years of trial and error, including hundreds of safety tests, Garrett and his team officially introduced Neubie in 2017.
A Highway to Healing
The Australian band AC/DC may have penned a song by a slightly different name, but the differences in alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) are at the core of what makes our Neubie special and so effective in healing journeys.
Almost every electrical stimulation machine or TENS Unit on the market today relies on the use of an alternating current; however, AC has a significant limitation. At higher therapeutic levels, AC inadvertently trains muscles to grow more rigid over time. When turned up to a level high enough to impact neuromuscular function, the alternating current actually causes the muscles to fight against one other, or co-contract, locking up the body so it’s unable to move.
Early versions of direct current stimulation machines had issues too. Though there were benefits, they were also causing skin damage, which is why direct current had been largely ignored for decades.
Neubie is different.
Let’s consider our nervous system. It uses a direct current along unidirectional pathways which are similar to a highway. Signals move in separate pathways or lanes in opposite directions. From the brain to the body and from the body back to the brain.
The Neubie device’s use of direct current synchronizes closely with the human body in part because its waveform matches the rate at which electrical charges transfer across our nerves. As a result, the stimulation signals from Neubie minimizes the protective responses and muscular co-contractions that would otherwise increase resistance in the body. When there is less resistance, it’s easier to stimulate the sensory pathways.
Neubie also helps to increase parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system activity which itself activates the body’s inherent capacity to heal and perform at an optimal level.
Neubie plays an important role in our overall NeuFit Method – a systematic approach to healing. When we use it, it is not meant to replace a body’s natural healing and repair processes. Instead, Neubie is designed to access the body’s existing capacity—and actually raise it. Once the machine kick-starts the body’s internal power sources, biological processes take over and do the rest, accelerating the body on its highway to healing.
